Singaporean skin is being threatened by the Blue Light

Updated: Nov 21, 2018

You can’t just resist the temptation of being with your smartphone as if it’s your baby. You are being exposed to LED rays all day. Your skin is gradually being attacked by the Blue Light even while you are reading this article now.

Blue Light attacks your skin.

The problem of the Blue Light is extremely significant for Singaporeans. The smartphone usage of Singaporean is above any other nations in the world.

Blue Light is a colour that exists at wavelengths between 380 and 500 nanometers, which has the shortest wavelengths and highest energy on the visible light spectrum. Blue Light occurs mainly in displays such as TVs, computers, smart phones, and LED lights. So what is so serious about the Blue Light that is very common in daily life? Dr Peirson says, “We’ve evolved to expect light during a particular part of the day and that optimizes our physiology and behavior to anticipate changes in our environment”. Thus, our brain and body operates according to how much light is in our environment that ultimately sets our circadian clock also known as ‘body clock’.

However, according to psychologist Lora Wu from Massey University, artificial light is thought to disrupt circadian clock. Exposure to Blue Light for a long time causes dry eye syndrome and inhibits melatonin secretion that interrupts sleep. “Exposure to the Blue Light for a long time in everyday life will cause errors in the circadian rhythms and interfere with sleep, making it difficult to repair damaged skin at night.

Blue Light, a type of visible light, has a similar effect to ultraviolet light. Direct exposure to intense Blue Light for a long period of time can stimulate melanin production and cause skin pigmentation disorders,” Dr. Seo Sujin, a dermatologist, said. Dr. Seo Sujin also claimed that though blue light is not the main cause of skin aging, it interferes with appropriate sleep and promotes aging and causes skin trouble. And Blue light has major effects of bringing about Rosacea on your face. Rosacea is a long term skin condition that causes the face to become red and inflamed, with enlarged and broken blood vessels.

It seems that even i watch the screen of the smartphone, laptop, or TV probably for 17hours a day except for sleeping hours or shower time. Thus, here are some tips for you to mitigate the effect of Blue Light.

  1. Put blue light blocking film on smart phone and computer monitor

  2. Stay away from smartphones or laptops at least one to two hours before going to sleep.

  3. Use products with a blue light filtering effect at home

  4. At least when you go to sleep, turn Wi-Fi & wireless data off

  5. Use a speakerphone or earphone for long time calls

  6. Avoid putting your smartphone in your pocket or putting your laptop on your abdomen

  7. Use an electromagnetic shielding mobile phone case

Just to let you know, The Anti-Clockwise has recently launched the product “DIMOER  Recovery System Skin and Lotion for men” that helps your skin cells to reproduce despite lack of sleep and the product is considered an anti-Blue Light care. Do not let your skin get destroyed by the Blue Light.
